It doesn't change because your highest DPS drones are your Gardes. And when you launch them, suddenly something else is highest DPS in your bay, and thus, the DPS drops. It's not a glitch, its a feature.

Correct me if I'm wrong but if you want to go back to the NPC corp you were in, why not just quit your current player corporation. It will automatically put you back into that npc corp.
